Mask

IMG 4997 Mask

In my efforts to become more creative in my photography, I’m dipping into my archive of ‘abandoned images’ and reprocessing them in the hopes of reinventing them as art.
It’s actually a really enjoyable process looking through images I had given up on long ago and breathing new life into them.
This was originally a photo taken of a mask in the British Museum. It was under a hard florescent light, and was taken as a wide shot resulting in a lot going on in the background.
I took the picture and then rather embarrassingly realized I was in the gift shop, not in the museum itself … ha ha.

Plaster replica aside, I’m please with the result.

Peace

I was going to delete the original image as it was badly shot against the light, but had a sudden flash of inspiration. I cropped it, added some filters and artificial lights for effect.
All done on the iPad.

Photography Update

In full photography mode this morning.

Spending the next hour or two planning out my new ‘people’ photography project. In 2010, I took a lot of photos of things. This year, I want to focus on people.
I also want to explore photo processing techniques in a lot more detail. So far, for me, processing has been about minor tweaks and colour correction. I want to see how I can use more advanced techniques to create more art-like images.

My big FAIL for 2010 has been not posting enough of my work online. That is all about to change. Will be posting a lot more, work in progress as well as finished work.

Stay tuned!!!

Portraits of the most Iconic people of all time

kurtcobain Portraits of the most Iconic people of all time

Webdesigner Depot recently published this post with over 100 portraits of the most iconic people of all time (or the most iconic images of all time – depending on how you look at it ).

The images are large and clear and many are stunning.

What is also interesting, are the comments, which had to be closed due to the intense debate on who should (or shouldn’t) have made the list.

Check it out.

This photograph is of Evelyn McHale. On the 1st May 1947 she jumped 86 floors from the top of the Empire State Building. She was 23 years old.

On the ground below, a photography student named Robert Wiles managed to capture the scene minutes after her body landed on top of a parked limousine.

You can read the story behind the photograph here.
