Collecting Inspiration

GR Pinterest 1024x580 Collecting Inspiration

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I collect my visual inspiration from across the web. I’ve been looking for a one-stop shop where I can save images, music, art and videos that peak my interest. Pinterest is looking like ‘the one’. I’ve been using Pinterest for a while now, but have decided to forgo all other tools and use it exclusively as my visual pinboard. For non-visual content, I still use Instapaper until I decide if I want to keep it or not.  … Continue Reading

The Fall of Icarus

20120129 115054 The Fall of Icarus

This is my first piece of ‘art’. It’s a photo-painting hybrid I made on my iPad.

I focused on the face, not wanting to show pain or fear, but that equilibrium that exists beyond it.

I also wanted to get the overall effect of being ‘consumed’ by the sun.

He is falling backwards, looking straight into the sun as he descends, bathed in all it’s golden glory.

More on Icarus’ tragic tale here.

I’m back

It has been a hectic 7 weeks in my new job but now that I’ve settled and found my feet, I’m ready to resume my film, photography and writing projects … and of course regular updates on this blog.

I have quite a few things I want to wrap up this year as I’d like to start 2011 fresh, working on brand new projects.

My plan is that by the end of this year I will have completed …

  • A short film
  • A novel
  • Online photography portfolio

I’ve stopped all my other mini projects so I can concentrate on the above (and the day job).

I’m also working on my fitness as well as throwing myself into my Danish lessons so that I can go into 2011 with some new language skills.

Last but not least, I’m trying to master the art of meditation. This is particularly difficult for me as my mind is always ‘talking’, but I like the discipline involved and the idea of developing my mind.

So, this is pretty much my focus until the end of the year. Looking forward to seeing what the new year will bring.

New Film Project

My life is one big revolving carousel of projects at the moment and I am adding another one into the mix.

I’m making a film.

Once upon a time filmmaking was my first and only love. If you made a film it had to be on 35mm (or 16mm at a push) or else it wasn’t a ‘real’ film.

It was a f@cking expensive hobby that required specialist crew and processing at a post production facility.

Photography and writing used to be the things I did in-between film projects, but because of their instant nature, they slowly became the things I did

the most often, and film slowly took a back seat.

Well not anymore.

I’m starting development on my new film project this week, and it’s good to be back.

Still toying with two variations of the same idea. A proper post, with project details to come as soon as I’ve made up my mind.

Angel? or Viking? … just joking (or am I?).

The motion keeps my heart running

There are three things that fuel me – Photography, Writing and Filmmaking.

I am only really happy when I am doing these things.

I can’t choose between them as each of them caters to a core need I have.

I am a ‘feeler’ and everything I do is about capturing or re-creating emotion.

I rotate my projects daily, rather than spending weeks/months doing one at a time. For me this keeps things fresh and prevents things from becoming too routine. Most importantly though, it stops me from becoming bored. It also means I get just enough space from each project to allow ideas to develop some body and can then return to them with renewed enthusiasm, a fresh pair of eyes and a clear head.

Inspiration seems to come to me the most just before I fall asleep. If I don’t write it down, I will forget it by morning.

Some of my best ideas have come from song lyrics. Some of my worst from trying to copy other people.

Be true to yourself and be free.

*Bonus points if you know which song the title of this post was taken from.

Changes. Big Changes !!!

Things have been a bit slow around here lately.

I’ve had a couple of pressing issues to take care of which have required my absolute and undivided attention these past few months. And while I did make some half-hearted attempts to post during this time, to be honest my mind was elsewhere.

But now I’m back, fully focused and ready to up the ante.

I’ve decided to change things up around here. While I like the look and feel of the site, I’m not too happy with what I have been posting recently (yawn). It has been a bit ‘lazy’.

I’ve also been thinking about how this site fits in with my other ones, my Portfolio and Lifestream, and what I want this, as my main site, to say.

Here are some of the changes I have decided to make for starters.

I will post …

  • at least 3 times a week (I’ve publicly said it now so no backing out)
  • more about the things that interest and inspire me (remember these? - The Beauty of BerniniUnder The Protection of Stone Angels and Evelyn McHale – The Saddest Photograph)
  • more about my work. Time to start posting details of my photography, writing and film projects as well as the creative process behind getting them done.
  • more about me. I’m a complicated animal.
  • my discoveries. I’m constantly finding amazing things, people and places. I’ll share these on here.

So, beginning from this post forward, things should get a lot more interesting.
